On 28 May 2009, the first five stations, namely: Marymount, Bishan, Lorong Chuan, Serangoon and Bartley, of the 33.3km Circle Line (CCL) were added into the present SMRT railway system, enhancing convenience and connectivity for the nation. The remaining 24 stations is targeted to open from 2010 onwards.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by the Founding Fathers of ASEAN, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Five other countries – Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam later joined in to make up what is today the ten Member States of ASEAN. Over the years, the 10 ASEAN member countries have built strong and close relationships. ASEAN has since matured into a community focused on economic integration and growth, and consensus-building. This is the “ASEAN Way” and it has resulted in unprecedented growth and stability.

The inaugural 2008 Formula 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix™ will roar into town on a street circuit of public roads around the Marina Bay area - right in the heart of Singapore. Set against the backdrop of downtown Singapore, spectators will get a view of the garden city as the circuit winds past historic landmarks such as City Hall and modern buildings along the Marina Bay, such as the Esplanade.

Birds of Prey, also known as raptors, hunt and feed on other animals. These birds are characterised by keen vision that allows them to detect prey during flight and powerful talons and beaks. They have very good eyesight for finding food, strong feet for holding food, and a strong curved beak for tearing flesh. Most birds of prey also have strong curved talons for catching or killing prey. Most of them have wings made for them to glide across the sky, and the purpose of the broad and powerful wings is for the birds to fly a greater distance. Featured in this stamp issue are 4 birds of prey, namely the Changeable Hawk Eagle, White-bellied Sea Eagle, Brahminy Kite and the Black-winged Kite.

The Indian Heritage Centre ( IHC ), under the management of the National Heritage Board and with support from the Indian community, traces the history of the Indian and South Asian communities in the Southeast Asian region. The four-storey IHC building is an iconic, unique and sustainable building that blends both traditional Indian as well as modern architectural elements. The architectural design for the facade of IHC is inspired by the “baoli” ( or Indian stepwell ), and seeks to create an urban forum for the celebration and appreciation of Indian culture. It houses ve permanent galleries, small scale museum facilities, a museum shop as well as programming and activity spaces.

This commemorative stamp issue celebrates the multinational inscription of Kebaya: Knowledge, Skills, Traditions and Practices on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. The kebaya, an upper garment worn by women across Southeast Asia, is a symbol of the shared cultural heritage of the five nominating countries. This garment embodies traditions and cultural connections, with women from diverse communities, regardless of age, wearing the kebaya on various occasions to celebrate their identity and traditions.

The United Nations General Assembly decided to declare 1986 as the international Year of Peace in a resolution adopted on 16 November 1982. Among other things, the resolution recailed the Preamble to the United Nations Charter, which proclaims that people of the United Nations are determined to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war and for this end to practise tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbours, and to unite their strength to maintan international peace and security.
