Zodiac Series - Rat

The highly intelligent, charming and enterprising Rat starts off a new cycle on the Chinese zodiac calendar. Three graphic illustrations of this lively Rat ushering in the new Lunar Year 2008 are shown in this set of 3 stamps with denominations 1st Local, 65c and $1.10.

Marina Bay Skyline

Marina Bay has become the centrepiece of Singapore as a global city-state of the 21st century. It is shaping up nicely as a seamless extension of the downtown district to further support Singapore's continuing growth as a major business and financial hub in Asia.

A reminisce of the past - Wet and flea markets at the streets, trishaws and bicycles, electric trams and Chinese opera or popularly known as Wayang. This stamp issue beautifully depicted these familiar past street scenes during the early days of Singapore.

A pond is an inland body of standing water, either natural or man-made, which is smaller than a lake. It undergoes marked changes as time passes, and the most obvious changes that one will notice is that one form of plant follows or succeeds another, and the different life forms that make the pond a lively and busy place. There are plenty of opportunities for exciting discoveries at a pond, and this set of Definitives stamps, ($1.10, $2, $5, $10) with its intricate designs, shows some commonly found life forms at a pond.

Formerly known as Pasir Panjang Ridge, Kent Ridge Park was originally a lowland evergreen rainforest filled with crops planted by the early settlers of Singapore. It was used as a fortress by the British in the defense of Singapore and was the site of one of the last battles fought against the Japanese - the Battle for Pasir Panjang, at a hill in the park called Bukit Chandu - during the World War II.

This is based on inscriptions of the winners of a footrace held every four years starting in 776BC, at Olympia. The first modern Olympics Games was held in Athens, in 1896. Through the years, the participating nations grew. From 241 participants representing 14 nations in 1896, the Games have grown to about 10,500 competitors from 204 countries at the 2008 Summer Olympic, held in Beijing, China.

Nature Series Kingfishers

Kingfishers are a group of small to medium-sized, bright-looking birds in the order Coraciiformes. They fly rapidly, low over water, and hunt fish from riverside perches, occasionally hovering above the water’s surface. Their plumages are often brightly coloured, such as blue or orange. They have large heads, long, sharp bills, short legs, and stubby tails. Illustrated in this stamp issue are 4 species of kingfishers found in Singapore: Black-capped kingfisher (1st Local), Blue-eared kingfisher (70 cents), Black-backed kingfisher (90 cents), and White-throated kingfisher ($1.30).
