Nineteenth-century Singapore was a vibrant commercial centre. Just a year after the British established a trading post in 1819, it showed its potential by earning revenue, and three years later, its trade surpassed that of Penang. The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2021. Formed in November 1971, with a small force of fewer than 20 officers, CNB was tasked with fighting the scourge of drugs, to make Singapore a safer place without drugs. Over the years, CNB has evolved from a predominantly enforcement agency to an agency that focuses on Enforcement, Education and Engagement to realise its vision for a drug-free Singapore.
