This year Singapore will celebrate its 40th year of nation building. To commemorate Singapore's 40th birthday, more than 40 patchwork pieces from the Fabric of the Nation project have been specially selected and reproduced into 40 stamps for the stamp issue. The Fabric of the Nation is a visual reminder of the emotions and experiences of Singaporeans stitched and united in diversity as well as adversity. The Fabric of the Nation project is a partnership of Channel NewsAsia and the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports.

Home is where a nation's story truly begins. This stamp issue marked a monumental milestone in Singapore's public housing story – the completion of the 100,000th home. The stamps were designed with the number “100,000” prominently featured as a high-rise building, symbolising this major achievement. Standing at 1 Empress Place, the Empress Place Building has seen the history of Singapore enfolds before it. Built in 1864, it had functioned as offices for government departments from the colonial era right up to the 1980s.
