Singapore will be hosting the World Stamp Championship to be held under the auspices of the Internationale de Philatelie (FIP) from 28 August to 1 September 2004. Making the event even more significant, the year 2004 will also mark the 150th year since the first use of the first postage stamp in Singapore, in 1854!

The Annual Meetings of the Board of Governors of the International Monetary Fund [IMF] and the World Bank Group will be held in Singapore in September 2006. This is of significance for Asia as it will be the first Annual Meetings in the region since 1997. It is also part of Singapore 2006, which is a series of large-scale international events including the Singapore Biennale to be held in the course of September 2006.

Night Creatures

While the rest of the world is sleeping, some creatures in the forests are just beginning to wake up from their slumber. These nocturnal creatures take advantage of the cooler temperature, less competition for food and the night darkness, to hunt for their prey. In this delightful set of stamps, four of these night creatures namely the Tarsier (No-Value Indicator, For Local Addresses Only), the Barn Owl (40cts stamp), the Babirusa ($1 stamp) and the Clouded Leopard ($2 stamp) are illustrated against the backdrop of the night sky.

The North East Line (NEL) is the second major MRT line to be built since the completion of the main MRT network in 1990. Spanning 20km in length, NEL consists of 16 stations and runs from Harbourfront (previously known as World Trade Centre) through busy downtown and Serangoon to Punggol.
